How to Add and Edit a Product in Openleet

Learn how to create, publish, review, and update a product on your Openleet business profile and optional business website.

By Openleet Editorial Team

What you’ll learn

  • Create a useful product page with the essential information
  • Choose whether a product should be public, unlisted, private, or a draft
  • Update a product once its price, availability, description, or images change
On this page

Openleet lets you enter product information once and use it in your Openleet business profile and, when your plan includes a website, your Openleet-powered website.

You can begin with a product name, description, price, availability, and image. More detailed fields are available when they are useful, but you do not need to complete every field before saving.

Before you begin

Have the product name, a short description, price or pricing approach, availability, condition, and at least one clear image ready. Confirm that you have permission to publish every image and brand asset you upload.

Open the product library

  1. Sign in to the Openleet dashboard.
  2. Select the business you want to manage.
  3. Open Content from the business workspace.
  4. Select Products.

The product library shows the total number of products and separates public products, drafts, and products with limited visibility. You can also search and filter the list by category or subcategory.

Add a new product

From the Products page, select New product. The editor opens in Simple mode, which contains the fields most businesses need.

Add the product basics

Complete these fields first:

  • Title: Use the product name customers recognize.
  • Slug: This becomes part of the product page address. Openleet suggests one from the title.
  • Description: Write a short summary suitable for product cards and previews.
  • Language: Select the language used on the product page.

Keep the title specific. For example, “Organic Cotton Baby Blanket” is more informative than “New Product.” Avoid adding unnecessary promotional wording or a list of keywords to the title.

Title, excerpt, and full description are different

The title identifies the product. The description excerpt gives visitors a quick summary. The full product description explains the product in enough detail for someone to evaluate it.

Choose appropriate categories

Add a business-facing Category and, when useful, a Sub-category. Consistent categories make a larger product library easier to browse.

You can also search for a Google Product Category. Choose the closest accurate option rather than forcing the product into an unrelated category.

Write the full product description

Explain the product in plain language. Useful details can include:

  • What the product is and who it is for
  • Important materials, size, or included components
  • Available variations
  • Care or usage information
  • Pickup, delivery, or ordering details
  • Limitations a customer should know before contacting you

Use short paragraphs and descriptive headings when the explanation is long. Only include claims you can support.

Add price, availability, and condition

Enter the price and confirm the currency. If the product is sold by a particular unit, select the appropriate unit.

Set the current availability and condition accurately. Update these fields when stock or product condition changes.

Check the default price

New products begin with a numeric price field. Do not leave the price as zero unless the product is genuinely free. If a fixed price is not appropriate, use the advanced offer options or explain how customers can request current pricing.

Upload product media

Add a clear hero image as the main product visual. You can also add multiple gallery images to show different angles, variations, packaging, or important details.

Use images that:

  • Show the actual product clearly
  • Are sharp and well lit
  • Avoid excessive text or promotional overlays
  • Do not reveal private customer or business information
  • Include useful alternative text where the editor requests it

If you use a video, provide a useful thumbnail so the product still has a recognizable visual before the video plays.

Choose Published or Draft

New products currently start with Published status and Public visibility.

If the page is incomplete, select Set as draft before saving. A draft stays in your dashboard without being presented as a published product.

Use the Advanced publishing controls when you need a different visibility level:

  • Public: Shown normally in eligible public listings and pages.
  • Unlisted: Available through its direct address but not presented normally in listings.
  • Private: Restricted from normal public access.
  • Prevent search-engine indexing: Requests that search engines not index the page. Use it only when there is a specific reason.

Publishing a page does not guarantee that an external search engine or AI system will crawl, index, cite, rank, or recommend it.

When to use Advanced mode

Simple mode is enough for many products. Switch to Advanced when the extra information is accurate and genuinely useful.

Advanced fields include:

  • Brand, SKU, model, manufacturer, and part numbers
  • Material, country of origin, and warranty
  • Additional offers or price options
  • Weight and dimensions
  • GTIN product identifiers
  • Search title and search description
  • Publication date, visibility, and indexing controls

Do not invent identifiers or technical specifications. Leaving an optional field empty is better than publishing incorrect information.

Search title and description

Openleet can build default search metadata from the product title and description. You only need custom metadata when a clearer version would help a visitor understand the page.

  • Keep the search title descriptive and natural.
  • Summarize the product accurately in the search description.
  • Do not repeat keywords unnaturally.
  • You do not need to enter a canonical address; Openleet generates it from the published page.

Save and review the product

Select Save product when the information is ready. Openleet returns you to the product library.

Review the product card and use its public link when available. Check:

Product review checklist

Where a published product can appear

A published public product can be presented in the Products section of your Openleet business profile and on its individual product page.

If your Openleet plan includes a business website, the same product information can also appear in the website’s Products section. The Products feature and its navigation item must be active for visitors to reach the list through the website menu.

The exact public placement depends on the business plan, publishing status, visibility settings, and enabled website features.

    Edit an existing product

Return to Content → Products and select the product card you want to change. The same editor opens with the saved information.

Update the relevant fields and select Save product again. Common reasons to edit a product include:

    • A price or currency change
    • A product becoming available or unavailable
    • New images or variations
    • Corrected specifications
    • Improved ordering or pickup instructions
    • A discontinued product that should become a draft

Review the public page after every important change, especially after replacing media or changing visibility.

    Draft, unpublish, or delete?

Use Draft when you may publish the product again or want to continue editing later. Change the visibility when the page should only be available in a limited way.

Delete a product only when you are certain it is no longer needed. Deletion is intended to be permanent and can also leave previously shared external links without a destination.
